Digital technology is revolutionizing our world. It is changing the way we do business, the way we learn, the way we buy, and the way we interact with each other. It is creating a world in which the manufacturing of ideas is as important as the manufacturing of goods. The quality of life people can expect in the future will be closely linked to their access and understanding of this digital technology. Those who lack access will spend more time and money on every day tasks, such as paying bills, shopping, or simply keeping up with events in their community. They will be at a disadvantage in searching and competing for new jobs. And they and their children will be without important tools they need to further their education and succeed.
Currently a group of 10 Colorado cities and counties recognize that technology is essential for getting involved in the mainstream and global economy. They are determined that access to comprehensive low cost wireless broadband for residents, businesses, institutions, and visitors would enhance their ability to sustain vibrant communities and preserve/improve the quality of life. They also realized that together, their ability to attract vendor interest in deploying such a network would improve dramatically.
